Social Care News: Workforce - 17m set aside for training inScotland

Nearly 17m has been earmarked by the Scottish Executive for training under a new five-year strategy to develop the social services workforce.

Eleven million pounds will go to local authorities as a SpecificTraining Grant between 2006 and 2008 while the independent sector willreceive 2.9m, and 3m from 2005 to support four learningnetworks.

The scheme excludes the early years and childcare sector but willencompass training for residential care staff and people working withsocial workers.

Ruth Stark, professional officer at the British Association of SocialWorkers Scotland, said local authorities and the independent sectorwould determine how the money was spent.
