Last week's long-awaited publication of the 21st Century Social WorkReview, reveals services are "under great pressure, lacking inconfidence and not delivering to their full potential". It sets out avision for the future of both children and adult's social work.
Peter Peacock, Scotland's education and young people minister, saidradical action was needed to transform services. But he admitted that adetailed action plan would not be published until later this year. Andit will take until at least 2008 to put new legislation in place.
Bronwen Cohen, chief executive of Children in Scotland, said the reportwas helpful. But she called for an overarching review of the entire220,000-strong children's workforce in Scotland, to clarify the role ofchildren's social care within this. "Joined-up services require us tolook at the workforce across the children's sector," she said.
