Social Care News: Substance Misuse - Project for children of users to launch

A new treatment programme for children of drug and alcohol misusers is to launch in June.

Corekids, run by the London charity Core Trust, will com-bine therapies such as acupuncture with family sessions to improve communication between children and their parents, who will also receive lessons

in parenting.

The charity is rolling out the project after a year-long pilot.

Children will attend weekly sessions for up to a year. There are places for eight children on the programme at any one time.

But children will only be able to attend the programme if their parents have been referred by local authorities to receive treatment from Core Trust's adult rehabilitation services.
