Addaction, the drug and alcohol treatment charity, has received 1m over four years from the Zurich Community Trust for its Breaking the Cycle project, which will address the hidden harm caused to children and families by parental drug misuse.
Peter Martin, chief executive of Addaction, said the money, would help provide the evidence base of what reduces hidden harm, currently a "big gap" in children's and drugs policies.
In March, campaigners criticised the Government for refusing to adopt recommendations that social workers should study parental substance misuse as part of their training (Children Now, 23-29 March 2005).
It followed the Government's response to a major report, Hidden Harm, published by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs in 2003.
