Social Care News: Sexual abuse - Sex tourism laws to bestrengthened

The Home Office is set to tighten up laws designed to halt child sex tourism. Ways of improving existing laws are being identified by an internal Home Office review, according to newspaper reports.

Changes being considered include requiring people on the sex offendersregister to tell the police about any trips abroad. Currently sexoffenders only have to inform the police if they are going abroad formore than three days. Another possible change is that people who havesex with under-16s outside the UK will be prosecuted even if the age ofconsent in that country is less than 16.
