Social Care News: Child abuse - Parents could get details onabusers

The public should have a right to ask for information about people they believe are paedophiles according to the Home Office's child sex offender review group.

An interim report by the review group, published last week, said peopleshould have the right to ask the police to disclose information aboutpeople they suspect of being child abusers. Under the plans police wouldnot be required to give any information but would have to explain whythey refused the request.

The report, Child Sex Offender Review: An Update, also said more moneyshould be spent on multi-agency public protection arrangements, thebodies responsible for supervising and monitoring dangerousoffenders.
