A spokesman said no final decisions had been made despite last week'sspeculation surrounding a trial scheme in Somerset, said to be a watereddown version of Megan's Law, the US law that means parents are notifiedif a sex offender lives locally.
If it goes ahead the Somerset scheme would let parents know if there areany paedophiles living in areas close to schools or parks and let singleparents check if potential partners are sex offenders.
But the Home Office spokesman said: "A limited form of disclosurealready exists and the review is looking at how best to focus the impactof any extension to this important principle. There continues to bediscussion within Government about the options available and, asresearch is still going on, talk of the specifics of the final report ispremature."
