As Scotland bans smoking in all public places, the council hasintroduced a non-smoking policy for foster carers. It states that carersshould not smoke in front of foster children, and there should be asmoke-free environment for all children under five and all those withrespiratory problems.
The council has identified 27 smoking households; 25 have said they willcomply with the policy including two carers who have stoppedsmoking.
The two households that have yet to comply look after children aged 13to 15. The council plans to review the suitability of these fostercarers once their current placements end.
Helen Wright, social work convener at Dundee City Council, said: "Thefact so many of the carers have made a commitment shows how seriouslythey take their responsibilities."
