1 min read
The Government should develop a network of local residential family centres, say inspectors.

It comes as a consultation reveals the impact on young people whenleaving their friends and community.

"I had to quit my job when I came here," said one. The comment is partof a report on residential family centres by the children's rightsdirector at the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

The centres are places where parents stay with their children for awhile so that staff can assess parenting skills and provide support. Many parents are also young people, and a significant proportion arecare leavers.

The report says that young people thought it would make more sense fortheir parenting to be assessed in their home areas where they actuallybring up children.
