Children's and family centres can be ideal places to provide debtadvice, according to the Legal Services Commission.
Researchers tested how effective different settings were at providingfinancial support. Locations included children's and family centres, credit unions and housing offices.
The study found that 77 per cent of interviewees at children's centresdidn't know they were within two miles of a Citizen's Advice Bureau. But87 per cent said it was easy for them to get to children's centres. Assuch, the study says that "outreach money advice" is "particularlysuitable" for this group.
Recommendations for how family and children's centres could becomebetter at providing financial advice are included in the report."Facilities to arrange appointments during a time when the debt adviseris in the location would be helpful, for example, through listing slotson a discreet notice board for people to fill in," says the report.
