Social Care News: Private fostering - Standards must tie in with inspection

More clarity is needed on how regulations and national standards for private fostering will tie in with the children's services inspection regime, says a report by officials from the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

The commission is currently looking at options around how it can best inspect local authorities' duties and functions regarding private fostering.

In formulating its response to three consultations the commission considered a number of key concerns, including how national minimum standards for private fostering will tie in with the Every Child Matters outcomes.

A report presented to a commission meeting last week questioned whether proposals for regulation, national minimum standards and guidance for private fostering were congruent with Every Child Matters.

The national minimum standards are not set out under the Every Child Matters outcomes. The commission has previously highlighted this with the Department for Education and Skills, having mapped the standards to the five outcomes.
