Private Fostering: National standards expected shortly

Publication of the National Minimum Standards for private fostering was expected imminently as Children Now went to press.

It follows regulations on private fostering, issued by the Department for Education and Skills last week. From 1 July, councils must make private foster carers aware of the requirement to notify local authorities of their arrangements. Kevin Crompton, chairman of the Association of Directors of Education and Children's Services, said a "straightforward requirement to register would be more effective".
