Social Care News: Northern Ireland - Adoption system to beoverhauled

Northern Ireland's outdated adoption system is to be reformed, the Government announced last week.

Plans to overhaul the province's adoption system were unveiled last weekby health minister Paul Goggins. Changes include a law introducing timelimits for particular parts of the adoption process and preventingcourts making a care order until a care plan is drawn up.

The Northern Ireland Office's consultation document Adopting the Futurealso proposes introducing many of the measures included in England'sAdoption & Children Act 2002.
