Social Care News: Looked-after children - DfES reveals high numbersof moves

More than one in 10 (12 per cent) children in care moved at least three times in 2005/06, Department for Education and Skills statistics revealed last week.

A total of 60,300 children were looked after in England at 31 March2006, down one per cent on the previous year's figure of 60,900. Thenumber of children adopted stood at 3,700, down three per cent from2004/05.

Scottish Executive figures also released last week show that there were12,966 children in care on 31 March 2006. This is up six per cent on theprevious year.
