Social Care News: Looked-after children - Care leaver fronts fostering drive

A Bristol care leaver who was one of the the final two interviewed for the next Blue Peter presenter job wants funding to make a national advert for more foster carers and adopters.

Junior Saunders, aged 19, was in care from six weeks old. He will front Bristol City Council's recruitment campaign for more in-house foster carers for teenagers during Foster Care Fortnight, which starts on 9 May.

He is currently a part-time reporter for BBC Points West and told Children Now he was determined to raise awareness of the need for more foster carers.

Junior's face will appear on Bristol buses during Foster Care Fortnight.

He will also join foster carers and family placement social workers on visits to local community centres.

"I'll be going round to Sainsbury's and Asda telling people to back the campaign," he added. "If you can accept someone into your life and family, you can really make a big difference."
