Social Care News: Fostering - Bristol carers take to streets to recruit

Foster carers in Bristol are taking to the streets to help recruit 100 new carers.

During their five-week tour they will visit local shopping centres, events and community groups armed with leaflets, a giant mural showing the "faces of fostering" in Bristol, and t-shirts with the words "make a difference" on the front.

Helen Sweet, a foster carer for two-and-a-half years, is taking part in the council's campaign. She told Children Now that many people didn't think about becoming foster carers because they didn't feel they were up to the job.

"We will be showing that a mixture of people do it and we come from a wide variety of backgrounds. We want ordinary people, not superhumans," she said.
