Social Care News: Disability - Support Bill pushes for respiteservices

Carers of disabled children could get respite help if a new Bill is approved by Parliament.

The Disabled Children (Family Support) Bill, which is sponsored byConservative MP Gary Streeter MP, is shortly due to start its journeythough Parliament.

The Bill, which is part of the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign'states: "Carers for disabled children who are not paid have a right toshort breaks from their caring role on a regular basis."

Other measures within the private members' Bill include a newresponsibility on local authorities and the NHS to provide breaks andstates that provision should be made for breaks by councils.

If the Bill is approved by Parliament it would apply in England andWales.
