Social Care News: Corporate parenting - Extra worker given toTelford children

Telford & Wrekin Borough Council is strengthening its corporate parenting role by giving the children in its care a designated person in addition to their social worker.

"What we're beginning to do in Telford is attaching an individualofficer to a looked-after young person, really acting as a parent," saidthe council's director of children's services Christine Davies. She saidthese acting parents could come from "any part of the council".

"It's in the early stages but there are signs of success. We have someexamples. What we are producing is a simple protocol - we're not aimingto duplicate the work of other key workers, we're aiming to add value,"she said.
