The guidance urges internet service providers to carry out manualreviews of web sites aimed at children, offer content filtering onsearch engines and do Criminal Records Bureau checks on staff that couldcome into contact with children.
The guidance is also designed to stop children viewing offensivematerial.
The Government has also announced further details regarding its ChildExploitation and Online Protection Centre, which launches nextApril.
National Crime Squad deputy director Jim Gamble, who becomes its chiefexecutive, will head the centre, which will employ 100 staff. It aims tobe a 24-hour single point of contact to report allegations and giveinformation about online child safety.
NSPCC director and chief executive Mary Marsh said: "This is a majorstep forward in tackling online child abuse."
