Social Care News: Asylum - Home Office review ignores children

The Home Office's "in-depth" review of immigration policies published last week does not mention children.

The shake-up of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate includedplans to handle 90 per cent of asylum claims within six months. Butthere was no mention of the much-delayed consultation on services forunaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

Lisa Nandy, policy adviser at The Children's Society, said: "It doesraise the question of whether it will be a real consultation or whetherall the details will already have been decided." The consultation is nowunlikely to be published before October at the earliest.
