Measures announced by home secretary John Reid last week includeparental compensation orders, which will be tested in 10 areas thissummer. They will force parents of under-10s to pay for damage caused bytheir children. There are also plans to enable the police to issue youngoffenders with fines or unpaid work.
But Chris Stanley, head of policy and research at crime reductioncharity Nacro, said it was a "hotchpotch of changes".
Meanwhile, the future of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate wasoutlined yesterday (25 July). Prior to the announcement, a Home Officespokeswomen told Children Now it would not include details on the reformof services for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
