The findings were reported in After Adoption's Moving From theSidelines, a study examining why few birth parents whose children areadopted against their wishes use services available to them. Publishedlast week, it found the chaotic lifestyles of birth parents meantservices must be better publicised and flexible.
Recommendations in the report include clear practice guidance for socialworkers and new procedures for referral, promotion of services andinformation gathering across agencies.
Julia Mansfield, head of service operations at After Adoption, said: "Itis hoped that recommendations from the report will result in furtherdevelopment of guidance and training for people working with birthparents."
