Some 74 per cent of people mistakenly believe adopting from abroad iseasier than in the UK, reveals the survey, released to mark NationalAdoption Week, while 58 per cent wrongly think British people adopt morefrom abroad than the UK.
"Overseas adoption has received so much attention and we believe thishas distorted public perception," said David Holmes, chief executive ofBAAF. "There are fewer than 400 inter-country adoptions in the UK eachyear.
"If people think it's harder to adopt a child from this country thanfrom elsewhere, they may not consider domestic adoption. This would bedisastrous for the vulnerable children needing adoption across theUK."
