Launched by health minister Malcolm Chisholm, the consultation will seek opinions from sexual health organisations, lesbian and gay groups, individuals and the Scottish Civic Forum.
Nicky Coia, senior health promotion officer for sexual health at the Greater Glasgow NHS Health Board, said: "It's good that there is national leadership involved in the strategy since it can give sexual health issues the gravitas they require. I support the strategy, especially its focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered young people." Coia added: "But it could be stronger on sex education in primary schools." He called for gender roles to be challenged in schools, saying they contributed to the range of sexual health problems.
