The centre is being set up by the charity Health Initiatives, which has been campaigning and fundraising for the past three years (YPN, 6-12 June, p6). Despite the grant, problems remain in securing the building earmarked for the centre, in Victoria, London.
Clint Walters, founder of Health Initiatives, said: "The Monument Trust is making an offer of 50,000 to the clinic on the basis of the lease on the building. However, it will take the solicitors another six to eight weeks to look at it so nothing is in writing yet.
"It is frustrating as we are almost at the final hurdle but just need to wait. The trust has told me that if the building falls through, the funding will go towards another building."
