A recent report from the Health Protection Agency showed a 20 per cent rise in HIV infections in the UK, which, when coupled with an increase in sexually transmitted infections (STIs), is a major concern for those who work with young people. The agency's Aids/HIV Quarterly Surveillance Tables revealed this month that 7,000 new cases of HIV infection were reported in the UK in 2003. The report also revealed that a third of these were not aware they had the disease.
