The national awards, organised by Children Now and Young People Now inassociation with the Children's Workforce Development Council, aimed torecognise the achievements of children's professionals.
The council of the year award goes to the local authority that had madethe most progress in making its services child-centred. David Lund,director of children's services at Blackpool, said the award was a "hugehelp" in endorsing the council's work on children and young people andhad already been raised at a meeting of elected members.
"We've had a positive joint area review but this is a more objectivejudgment on how we've done and holds more credibility because it'sdecided by young people."
