Children's Services: Four beacons of excellence named

Four local authorities were named this week as beacons of excellence in joining up their children's services.

Essex County Council, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Telford & Wrekin Borough Council and West Sussex County Council were winners in the Integrated Children's Services category of the sixth annual Beacon Council Awards, which are run by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Improvement and Development Agency.

The next round of the Beacon Council scheme includes a category on Early Intervention (Children at Risk).
