Young people will be able to make short radio programmes about local or national issues and place them on the Young Scot web site. Their peers will be able to download the programmes to their MP3 players or listen to them while they surf the internet. Telecoms firm BT is backing the initiative by supplying youth groups with digital radio equipment and technical training.
Louise Macdonald, deputy chief executive at Young Scot, said: "We are trying to use a medium that is popular with young people in order to help them have a voice about the issues that matter to them." Macdonald said the scheme is the first national podcasting project for young people in Scotland.
