Commissioning Services for People on the Autism Spectrum: Policy and Practice Guidance, offers best practice examples and makes recommendations for professionals in areas such as awareness training and involving people with autism in the planning of services.
Public health minister Shona Robison said: "Many individuals with autism and their families still find it difficult to access relevant services at the right time."
She added: "The new guidance will support professionals and those who put in place social services to reach better informed decisions on what types of services are best."
The Scottish Government is also developing an autism toolkit to offer guidance to education authorities and schools in identifying and supporting children and young people with autism.
