The Health and Safety Executive has just completed a consultation on plans to axe the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and replace it with either a code of practice or simpler accreditation scheme. But if adopted the changes will only apply to England.
The proposals followed Lord Young’s review of health and safety regulations published last year, which said adventure play is vital for children and should not be jeopardised by "overzealous and disproportionate risk assessments".
The Scottish Adventure Activities Forum (SAAF) is urging the Scottish government’s public health minister Shona Robison to ensure it follows England’s lead, if the changes are adopted south of the border.
