Scotland: Science park opens childcare centre

Public, private and voluntary partners have joined forces to develop a specialist childcare centre in Aberdeen.

The centre - Silverburn Lodge - will be based in the Aberdeen Scienceand Energy Park and provide much-needed childcare services including a118-place day nursery and an out-of-school club.

Aberdeen early years and childcare partnership co-ordinated theproject.

It will be delivered by the Bridges Partnership, which runs nurseries, and is supported by gas and oil company Total.

The centre is the first of its kind to be developed after the ScottishExecutive said it wanted local authorities to embark on cross-sectorpartnerships to develop childcare. "It's been an aspiration for the cityfor some time," said a spokesman for Aberdeen City Council.
