Parenting Across Scotland's funding was due to end this month but the Scottish Executive has allocated it almost 300,000, enabling it to continue until 2007.
The project started last year and is backed by voluntary organisations including Children 1st, Children in Scotland, One Parent Families Scotland and Family Mediation Scotland.
Evelyn Gillan, the project's co-ordinator, said there was a "lack of universal provision" for parents in Scotland.
A Mori poll commissioned by the project last year found that two-thirds of parents didn't know where to go for help and couldn't name any organisations that support parents.
"Unless you've committed a crime there's not an easy way to access support," said Gillan.
