Scotland: More Gaelic projects to receive funding

Youth projects feature heavily in the list of 38 extra initiatives receiving support this year from the Gaelic Initiatives Fund, which supports efforts to raise the profile of the language.

A spokeswoman for Bord na Gaidhlig, the quango that runs the fund, said: "Gaelic-medium education has really grown. But as with any language, usage can drop off a bit with teenagers. A lot of these projects have been formed to encourage them to use it outside school."

A Skye-based multimedia company called Canan that runs youth web site Sgleog.com has been awarded 3,000 of the money to run a five-day summer course in film-making and digital media for 16- to 18-year-olds in Sleat on the Isle of Skye.
