Serving Children was designed to explore whether young people who are less well off lose out by not being able to take advantage of services such as health care or youth clubs.
The study discovered that even when these services are free, some young people are unable to attend because of barriers such as transport costs.
One of the recommendations is that more help should be provided with hidden costs.
Douglas Hamilton, head of policy and research at Save the Children Scotland, said: "There are a number of barriers and young people in poverty are facing all of them at the same time."
