Scotland: Glasgow nurses take up pay offer

Nursery nurses in Scotland's largest local authority have returned to work after agreeing to accept a revised pay offer.

Their about-turn came a week after Glasgow City Council said it had reached "the end of the road" in negotiations, because nursery staff had rejected an improved offer.

Last week, they voted 542 to 98 in favour of accepting the council's offer.

All staff will get a lump sum of 2,500 and an increase of between 6.8 per cent and 23.1 per cent, depending on grade and length of service.

The decision came a week after nursery nurses in Edinburgh also settled their dispute, and it leaves Orkney and the Borders as the final two of Scotland's 32 local authorities where agreement has still to be reached.
