Early Years: Union tells nurses to take pay offer

Nursery nurses in Scotland's second largest local authority have been "reluctantly" advised to accept a revised pay offer.

The nurses in Edinburgh are being balloted on the offer from the city council, after Unison said it would not be financially worthwhile for its members to continue striking because the council had dug its heels in.

The results of the ballot will be announced on Friday (28 May). Nurses at the top end of the pay scale will receive an increase of 2,010 a year, but will have to work an additional two and a half hours a week.

Nurses in 25 of Scotland's 32 local authorities have agreed pay deals, but an agreement has yet to be reached in the largest, Glasgow. Strike action began almost three months ago, but last month the union said it would "investigate" offers from authorities in a bid to end the dispute.
