Foundation studies in youth work, informal education and community learning, developed by YMCA George Williams College, have been taken up by 12 community safety firefighters and support staff from local authorities across Strathclyde.
The pilot training, delivered by Strathclyde Fire & Rescue in partnership with YouthLink Scotland, includes work placements for firefighters in youth organisations and local authority youth services from next month.
They will also attend six tutorials run by YouthLink. The training will last until November, when it will be evaluated.
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue assistant chief officer Keith MacGillivray said he hoped training of this kind could form part of training for all fire and rescue staff in Scotland.
