Scotland: Edinburgh to pilot integration models

Edinburgh City Council is to pilot different models of multi-disciplinary teams to find the best way of integrating early years and childcare services.

The size and scope of the pilot has yet to be finalised, but it is hopedit will provide good practical examples of joint working.

"We want to test different models of multidisciplinary teams, working indifferent locations," revealed Carolyn Martin, Edinburgh's early yearsand childcare services manager. "We will take the approach that thereneeds to be a new definition of job roles to mirror local needs."

The move follows independent research indicating Edinburgh's childcareworkers want to expand their job roles. But the report, by Anne Hughesand Dr John Davis, found workers were concerned about blurringprofessional boundaries.
