The Supported Employment for Young People pilots were started in eight areas across Scotland three years ago to address the need for more mediation between young people and employers.
Careers Scotland already provides key workers to help disadvantaged young people into work. But the supported employment adviser roles pioneered by the pilots differ by forming ongoing relationships with the young person and employer. Under the scheme, advisers sometimes accompany young people on work placements and brief employers on the needs and background of individuals.
Careers Scotland's work to develop a national model for the approach in time for the conclusion of the pilots in July 2006 has been prompted by a Scottish Executive evaluation published earlier this month.
