Councils struggle to retain social workers
Eighty-five per cent of councils with staff retention difficulties struggle to keep hold of children's social workers, a study of local authorities has found.
The annual Local Government Workforce Survey by the Local Government Group shows retention difficulties within children's social work outstrip all other areas of work.
The research also shows that nearly eight out of 10 councils with trouble recruiting staff find that children's social workers are the most difficult to employ.
Bursary cuts could cause staff shortages
Getting rid of bursaries for social work students could exacerbate staff shortages in social services, a group of senior academics has warned.
