Richmond Safer Schools Programme

1 min read Youth Justice
Police in Richmond upon Thames are working with schoolchildren to help reduce the fear of crime.

Funding: Existing budgets.
Aim: To improve relations between police, schools and pupils.

Police are forging closer links with schoolchildren as part of a drive to reduce fear of crime in Richmond upon Thames. As part of the borough's Safer Schools programme, a new police sergeant has been appointed to build confidence among pupils so they can ask police and police community support officers (PCSOs) for help rather than being daunted by them.

Every secondary school and virtually every primary in the borough has a dedicated police liaison officer, with the new appointee, Sergeant Lisa Turner, overseeing their combined work. She will ensure dedicated officers, who are part of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in each ward in the borough, can co-ordinate their work and share ideas.
