Revising the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for Adoption, Children's Homes and Fostering.

Views are being sought by the Department for Children, Schools and Families on proposed revisions to the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for adoption, children's homes and fostering.

The NMS form the basis for Ofsted's inspections of adoption, children's homes and fostering, and are also used for self-assessment by providers, homes and agencies.

It is proposed that the NMS be amended to include indications on how they relate to the five Every Child Matters outcomes and incorporate child-centred standards. Proposed changes also include bringing the values for fostering and children's homes into line with those for adoption. These changes aim to ensure the NMS better reflect the Care Matters agenda. The results will be published in early 2010.
