Balls presented a 10-minute rule Bill yesterday (14 February) that aimsto ensure children have the same rights as adults to be assessed andprovided with appropriate care by law.
Ten-minute rule Bills rarely become law but can be used by MPs to statetheir opinion on a particular subject. However, Balls, who workedclosely with Brown on the Government's child poverty strategy, said heintended to lobby for the issue to be introduced through follow-uplegislation if necessary.
He told Children Now the Bill echoed moves by Liam Byrne, children'shealth minister, to prioritise children's disabled services in key NHSguidance (see Health, p9).
