Runaways: Bill calls for a national strategy

A Labour MP has called for a national strategy to safeguard runaway and missing children.

There also needs to be better co-ordination between local authoritiesand other bodies, and more information gathering on the issue, saidHelen Southworth, who proposed the measures in a 10-minute rule Billlast week.

"It does not seem too much to ask that vulnerable children areidentified so they can be helped, that information is collected when achild is reported missing to the police, and that there is effectiveco-ordination to ensure that such children receive help," she said.

The Warrington South MP will now draw up the text of the Bill, which issupported by the Relationships Centre, a charity that works withrunaways, ahead of its second reading on 23 February.
