The challenge
Bracknell Forest Council needed to fulfil its statutory duty to provide a directory of services for children and young people. The council's existing Community Directory had been in place for five years, but the information was not always accessible.
The aim was to improve on this service, as it fell short of the Government's requirements in the Education and Inspections Act 2006. Sandra Maxwell, the council's integrated children's officer, says: "We wanted to make information about services for young people more accessible."
The solution
Maxwell met the council's corporate IT group to discuss the situation. "We asked the IT department to look at what was going on in other areas - and to come forward with some proposals," she says.
