Resources: Talking point - Should pupils be taught British values?

In response to last year's London bombings, ministers are considering proposals to teach young people about "core British values" as part of citizenship lessons. Just what these "core values" are is not clear yet, but they could include lessons on freedom, fairness, civil responsibilities and democracy.

The hope is that teaching young people about the values shared by all communities in the UK will help avoid a repeat of last year's bombings and tackle discrimination. Ask young people what they think about the proposals. Do they think being taught about the British approach to democracy, for instance, will help unite different communities?
