There are an estimated four million closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) in the country. That is one for every 14 people in the UK. An expert recently estimated that a person in London can expect to be captured on CCTV cameras up to 300 times a day.

What is all this surveillance for? Does it work? Ask young people if they feel different knowing that they are being watched. Do they feel safer? Do they feel their privacy is being invaded?

One study showed that cameras don't make street fights less likely. People on Saturday nights still get into brawls. But they do reduce the severity of injury.
