One in five teenage girls has suffered violence at the hands of their boyfriends, according to a survey published by teen magazine Sugar. A spokesperson for the NSPCC, which carried out the survey with the magazine, says the findings are "scary". What is young people's reaction? Why are people shocked by the idea of violence between young people in relationships?

Some of the young women surveyed said that they forgave their boyfriend.

More than 40 per cent said they would consider giving a boy a second chance if he hit them. Some of those receiving abuse said they simply ignored it. Talk about why so many are prepared to tolerate or find excuses for such aggression.
