RESOURCES: Quick guide to... Volunteering

2 mins read

1 Volunteers shouldn't be relied on to do essential work normally done by paid staff. But no-one wants made-up tasks either. Achieving a balance can be hard. One solution is for volunteers to take on a self-contained, time-limited mini-project. That way, they can take responsibility and work on something of value, without undermining the mainstream work.

2Volunteers give their time freely. That doesn't mean they should also subsidise your running costs out of their own pockets. So reimburse proper expenses. This is both fair and the best way to get a diverse range of volunteers. Otherwise you confine yourself to those who can afford it.
